For health issues that you believe may need further investigation and would benefit from an ultrasound scan, London GP Clinic is happy to help you with this. We have an in-house scanner and a radiologist and/or our G.P. will perform the procedure depending on what is required and gives a report on the findings.
An initial G.P. appointment is required. The cost of this is £150 for 15 minutes. He/she will determine if an ultrasound is needed as you may have an issue which can be easily resolved with alternative treatment(s). Our G.Ps are highly regarded, registered with the GMC and very experienced.
Ultrasound scans investigations are available for the following:
An ultrasound scan (also known as a sonogram) uses sound waves to produce an image of the inside of your body. The scanner can also record moving images when displayed on the monitor. They are frequently used to assess a baby(s) growth or check for any anomalies in a pregnant woman. Printable pictures can also be created from a frozen image which you can then take away with you.
Preparations for an ultrasound scan depend on which body part is to be scanned. You will be given special instructions prior to your scan i.e. pelvic scans require a full bladder and you will need to drink approximately 2 litres of water at least a couple of hours beforehand.
A hospital gown will be provided for you prior to being scanned. The procedure will take from 15 – 45 minutes and the results and report will follow on completion. Occasionally the report will need to be sent to a specialist who will also charge for his/her consultation. (This will be agreed between yourself and the G.P. beforehand).
There are three main types of ultrasound scan:
The ultrasound procedure is usually painless. It is usual to experience a little pressure for all internal or endoscopic ultrasound scans.
Prior to the procedure our G.P. will explain the type of scan selected and what you should expect during the procedure.
If at any time you feel anxious or experience any discomfort or pain, especially during an internal scan, please let the doctor know immediately, don’t wait until after.
After the scan, you will be allowed to eat, drink, and resume your normal activities. The results will be available after approximately24 hours and will be sent to you by email together with a report.
